The
Eastern Kentucky University Mathematics and Science Academy
is a week-long summer program for talented rising high school juniors
and seniors who have exhibited success in science or mathematics. This
student-centered program is an exciting opportunity for young Kentucky scholars
to undertake the hands-on study of mathematics and science at the college level. If you are a rising junior or senior, June 2-6, 2008
is a great time for you to explore your interests in mathematics or science on the Richmond campus!
The EKU Mathematics & Science Academy seeks high-achieving students who earn grades of "B" or better in their high school math and science courses, have a high school GPA of 3.2 or above, and have an ACT composite score of 25 or above, with high scores in the areas of math and science reasoning. Students with a combined SAT mathematics and critical reading score of 1140 or above are also eligible for the Mathematics & Science Academy.
Mathematics and Science Academy
students are full members of our summer learning community. They participate
in daily hands-on science exploration sessions, project work groups, and creative
connections sessions that explore links between science and mathematics
and the arts or liberal arts. In addition, students are given information on scholarships and career opportunities for students who major in science, technology, engineering or mathematics. The program will end with a Parents Day Poster Session and Ice Cream Social on Friday afternoon.
The mission of the Mathematics and Science Academy is to elevate the
status of young Kentucky science and mathematics scholars nationally.
